As managing editor at Hyperallergic, I top-edited stories of all kinds, led daily news meetings, and managed a staff of 10 plus dozens of freelancers all aggressively aimed at covering the arts and the art world. It was a thrilling challenge, especially since the art world is a step removed from my usual beats. But some of my memorable hands-on edits included reports on museums in Turkey and film festivals in Missouri, reviews of new animation, our daily newsletters, and even cartoons. I established workflows, negotiated editorial partnerships, hired and mentored junior staff, sometimes oversaw the whole website as I was needed, and wrote a weekly column of industry Transactions.
